Campus Farmer’s Market Brings Excitement to UW Community

Along with beautiful fall colors comes the bounty of the fall harvest. In Madison, much of the product of the harvest lives right in our backyards at local farmer’s markets. The Campus Farmer’s Market, held at Union South, has been a way for UW-Madison students to take advantage of that fall harvest abundance. Since its inception in 2013, student leaders have coordinated the market. Giant Pumpkin Regatta Celebrates its Tenth Year

Some people know it’s Fall when brown leaves start covering their yards. Others know it when they draw a crisp breath of autumnal air. For Hoofer members however, it’s the sight of massive floating pumpkins dotting the shore of Lake Mendota. The Giant Pumpkin Regatta celebrated its tenth year at Memorial Union on October 10th, with dozens of participants braving the chilly waters of Lake Mendota in PFDs: Pumpkin Flotation Devices. Even more onlookers cheered and laughed as the canoers tried to navigate around checkpoints in order to finish in...

A Unified Role: Director and President

Mark Guthier and Jack Comeau both fell in love with college unions at an early age. Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier found his calling as an Indiana University (IU) Law School student. During the school year, Mark worked as an assistant hall director in the residence halls and enjoyed working with students. During his third year of law school, he got an internship with the Association of College Unions International; this started it all, as after graduation, Mark stayed at IU and worked at their Memorial Union for 11 years both as a...

Basecamp Gears up New UW Students for College

A tent, a propane stove and hiking boots aren’t typical for a back-to-school list, but for incoming UW-Madison freshmen and transfer students participating in the Basecamp program at Outdoor UW, these items are essential for starting their first year in Madison on the right foot.  Every summer, Outdoor UW organizes several outing trips for soon-to-be Badgers.
