Five Ways Students Can Lead, Connect, and Have Fun
Don’t let the University of Wisconsin–Madison students you know be the ones who find out senior year…that they could’ve been making friends, attending hundreds of free events each year, building their résumés, and even, with some leadership roles, receiving up to 80% of their in-state tuition through academic stipends, all by getting involved at the Wisconsin Union.
We want students to know early in their time at UW–Madison that leadership, connection, and fun are waiting for them here. (And some roles that pay!)
We’re breaking it all down here for you. Share this story with the UW–Madison students you know.
1. Join a Student-Led Committee or Club.
From planning free concerts to organizing sailing learning and events, our Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) committees and Hoofers clubs give students the chance to make an impact on campus, while building their resumes with real-world experiences, gaining transferable skills, networking, and making friends along the way.
And…the top leader of each club and committee is eligible for an academic stipend of 60% of the leader’s in-state tuition. Plus, our Wisconsin Union student vice presidents and president are eligible for a stipend of 80% of their in-state tuition.
2. Attend Union Events.
Comedy performances, film screenings, art exhibitions, and more, there’s almost always something happening at Memorial Union and Union South. With more than 1,000 events each year, there are so many opportunities to explore interests, have fun and meet new people.
3. Work at the Union.
Our student employees don’t just earn a paycheck; they gain leadership experience, build professional skills, and become part of a team dedicated to their success. Plus, flexible scheduling makes it easier to balance work and school, and a 30% discount on Wisconsin Union food and non-alcoholic beverages makes working at the Union even more rewarding.
4. Relax, and Recharge.
Patrons can grab a smoothie or a coffee and relax by the lake at Memorial Union or in cozy spots throughout Memorial Union and Union South. The Union’s spaces are places to unwind and be yourself.
5. Explore Union Activities.
Customers can make art at Wheelhouse Studios, explore the outdoors with Outdoor UW activities or recreation equipment rentals, or play videogames or a round of bowling or billiards at Sett Recreation.
