Meet the New Sip of Summer: Tea + Lemonade

Pull up a sunburst chair. We’re spilling the tea…on our newest beverage!

Say hello to our newest sparkling creation, a lemonade and iced tea beverage made in collaboration with our friends at Madison-based Karben4 Brewing. It is bright, bubbly, and basically made for long afternoons by the lake.

This refreshing newcomer blends real lemon juice and black tea, lightly sweetened with agave and organic cane sugar. The result is crisp, smooth and the perfect amount of sweet.

You may be familiar with this combo being called an Arnold Palmer, 50/50, iced tea lemonade, tea lemonade or half and half.

It is gluten-free, vegan and nonalcoholic, so it is ready for everyone who wants something fizzy and refreshing to enjoy. And if you take some to-go to sip at home on a relaxing summer evening, try mixing in vodka or peach vodka for a classic mixed beverage, bourbon for a sweeter take on your tea lemonade deliciousness, or gin for a lovely herbal pairing.

A New Addition to the Wisconsin Union Beverage Family

If you have tried our Terrace Lemonade, Terrace Strawberry Lemonade, or our fruit-forward Sunburst Sparkler, you already know we like creating drinks that taste like a day at our outdoor dining and entertainment destination, the Terrace. This newest creation continues that tradition.

Every one of these beverages is handcrafted right here in Madison through our partnership with Karben4 Brewing, which UW–Madison alumnus Zak Koga co-founded.

The idea for all of our collab beverages is simple: take real ingredients, add some culinary creativity from two Madison-based teams, and create something delicious to enjoy while gathering with friends at Wisconsin Union spaces (or anywhere you are).

“Developed through the Union’s ongoing partnership with Karben4, our new tea lemonade continues our tradition of creating beverages that add to the experience of gathering at Wisconsin Union spaces,” said Shauna Breneman, Wisconsin Union public relations and communications officer. “Through collaborations like this one, we’re able to offer something delicious and creative with simple ingredients.”

A Can That Looks Like Summer

When you spot the can, you will probably recognize the Terrace vibes immediately.

Wisconsin Union Graphic Designer Megan Breene designed the can with inspiration from earlier Terrace Lemonade designs.

“I think the can design really portrays the feeling of spending a summer day on the Terrace,” Breene said.

The design takes cues from the original Terrace lemonade cans created by Wisconsin Union Graphic Designer Max Homstad, whose trademark sunburst imagery celebrates the vitality of Wisconsin Union spaces and the sunburst image found in our Terrace chairs at the Terrace and Union South late spring and summer.

In short, it looks exactly like what it is meant to be: a summer day on the Terrace in a can.

Your Sip Supports Student Leadership

There is another reason these drinks taste so good.

When you purchase Wisconsin Union-created beverages, you help support our work to create free and low-cost events, welcoming community spaces and student leadership opportunities.

Some of those student leadership roles include academic stipends covering up to 80% of in-state tuition.

That’s right; you staying hydrated can do good in the world.

Where to Find It

You can grab this refreshing beverage, along with our Terrace Lemonades and Sunburst Sparklers, at many Wisconsin Union dining locations, such as der Rathskeller, Carte, and the Badger Markets at Memorial Union and South.

Whether you are lounging at the Terrace, studying, catching up with friends or family, or simply chasing a refreshing break in your day, this sparkling tea lemonade is ready to join you.

Tip: It tastes even better with a Lake Mendota view. 🍋
