5 Reasons to Catch the Wisconsin Singers’ ‘Star of the Show’
The Wisconsin Singers‘ brand-new Broadway-caliber revue, “Star of the Show,” is more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of University of Wisconsin–Madison student artistry, Badger spirit, and creativity. The revue is coming to Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on Oct. 25, Nov., 7 and Nov. 8 as well as to Janesville on Nov. 15. Here are five reasons to experience it.
1. A Broadway-Level Production
“Star of the Show” is a professional-caliber production, featuring powerhouse vocals, intricate choreography, and a nine-piece band. The students bring Broadway-level polish to the stage, delivering an experience that feels both grand and intimate.
2. A Musical Journey Through 50 Years of American Popular Music
The revue spans more than five decades of music, blending pop, jazz, funk, rock, and Broadway. Enjoy hits from artists like Queen, Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, and Ariana Grande, alongside songs from Broadway favorites such as “Wicked,” “Hamilton,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Hadestown.” People of all ages will hear music they recognize and discover songs they’ll love.
3. Experience the Creativity, Talent of Student Performers.
Wisconsin Singers Executive Producer Maggie Condon says the show “honors the many ways we find our light.” It’s about more than music; it’s about drive, heart, and collaboration. UW–Madison student performers represent a wide range of academic majors, not just the arts. Future engineers, teachers, biologists, and actors bring their energy, creativity, and love of the arts to the stage. Attending supports a 58-year tradition of creativity and community.
4. Family-Friendly
This revue has the classics that will take some of us back to childhood AND more recent hits, making this a perfect outing for the whole family. The trip home will have everyone talking about the memories connected to the music and the music they discovered that they love. You may hear fingers and toes still tapping along the ride, as everyone relives their favorite moments.
Seeing this performance together offers families a way to connect over family-friendly creativity and a core memory from this experience for a lifetime.
5. Nothing Quite Like a Live Performance
There’s nothing quite like seeing the Wisconsin Singers perform in person. The combination of vocals, a band, choreography, and the community of experiencing this as part of an audience creates an immersive experience and connections with one another that can’t be replicated online or on the radio. Find or reignite your love of the arts, and bring along the children in your life to spark their curiosity and ignite a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
