Cozy Eats and Bevs

When the temperature drops here in Wisconsin, many of us begin hankering for warm food and beverages and the comfort they bring. Here at the Wisconsin Union, our dining options are a haven for comforting concoctions. Here are some of cozy Wisconsin Union dishes and drinks to try this fall and winter:

  • Seasonal beverages at Peet’s Coffee and Prairie Fire: Fall and winter are pumpkin-everything seasons. And we so have you covered at our dining options Prairie Fire at Union South and Peet’s Coffee at Memorial Union with pumpkin lattes. Iced or hot, this drink always tastes rich and indulgent and is the perfect way to chase away the longing for summer.
  • House-made soups at many Wisconsin Union dining locations: Soup is one of those foods that brings comfort to us even on the coldest of days. And at many Wisconsin Union-run dining options, you’ll find house-made soup created with incredible ingredients by our in-house chefs. Hearty and fresh, our soups are the comfort food of your dreams. They frequently change across our locations, so you’ll constantly be adding new favorites to your list. Where can you find these bowls of deliciousness? Across many Wisconsin Union dining locations throughout downtown Madison, including the Sett Pub at Union South, der Rathskeller at Memorial Union, Carte at Memorial Union, the Open Book Café, Union Commons at the University Club, the Microcosm Café, and more.

  • Wisconsin cheese curds at the Sett Pub and der Rathskeller: Dollops of fresh squeaky cheese encased in a light, seasoned coding and then deep-fried to perfection; fried cheese curds are a Wisconsin classic for a reason — they’re absolutely delicious. And the antidote to a day spent trudging in the snow.

  • Nonna’s pulled pork mac and cheese at Strada at Memorial Union: An Italian street food destination, Strada’s menu boasts not only made-to-order pizza but also filling pasta dishes to fuel the day and warm you up. A sweet, tangy sauce coats protein-rich pulled pork, marrying with the slightly salty, creamy, house-made mac and cheese sauce for a dish perfect for wintertime warming up (or any time of year).
  • Nachos at South Cantina at Union South: Build the nachos of your dreams at South Cantina with some of the best queso you’ll ever taste. We make the queso from-scratch, and invite you to add unlimited standard toppings to the queso and warm tortilla chips. At no additional cost, add fajita veggies, fresh onions, citrus crema, salsa, cilantro, pickled jalapeño, shredded cheese, and more.
  • Bacon, egg and cheese on everything bagel at Peet’s Coffee: Need to fuel your morning with something warm? Our bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel sandwich packs a lot of protein into one dish to fuel a successful AM. The slight sweetness of bacon and cheddar cheese are the perfect partner for an everything bagel, giving you a sweet and salty boost to your day. Looking for a variation of this for breakfast? You will find different breakfast options across many of our dining options, including gluten-free and vegan breakfast sandwich options.
Memorial Union has beautiful places for everything from studying to meeting friends for lunch.
  • Caprese Sandwich at Union Commons and the Open Book Café: Slices of thick, rich mozzarella combine with bright tomatoes, sweet slightly spicy basil, and a delicate balsamic glaze to create a toasty pick-me-up on a longer winter day.
Guests dine at the University Club.

No matter the time of day or whether your schedule allows for us to make something just for you or you only have time to pick up something hot and ready for you, we are ready to be a warm part of your cold days. Explore all that we offer at union.wisc.edu/dine
