Hoofer Mountaineering Club – Spring Break Trip to Red Rock Canyon
By James Mutschler Over the past spring break, members of the Hoofer’s Mountaineering club took a trip to Red Rock Canyon, Nevada. Located outside of Las Vegas, Red Rocks is known for its long, moderate routes in the traditional style. We spent the following day at the beach playing soccer, throwing a football, and just relaxing in the sun before an intense week of sailing. By Fran Theisen On April 1st, the Hoofer Riding Club had their annual Dressage Preparation Clinic with Nicole Trapp. Each participant was able to ride a dressage test for the judge, Nicole Trapp. Afterwards, she talked with the riders about how their test went and then worked with the rider to improve their test score in the future. The group consisted of a mix of people with a wide range of skills, on windy days, the beginners were wowed by fancy tricks, and on calmer days, advanced boarders imparted their wisdom with those learning. Gloria Van Dixhorn, the artist who coordinated the student art around the bubblers in Union South, has just completed two ceramic tile murals near the Prairie Fire. The tiles are based on two of Aesop’s Fables. The first portrays the Tortoise and the Hare: The second features the Fox and the Crow: See our artistic tour of Union South here.
