You can’t Terrace anywhere else

If you’ve thought for even a fraction of a second that roaring jackhammers, steel fences, and waves of dust and dirt would deter us from the Terrace, I hate (or maybe “love” is more appropriate in this case) to break it to you, but that couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Stepping out into Memorial Union’s backyard, I can say for certain that the Terrace is still the place to be. Overflowing at all hours of the day with vacationing families, new grads celebrating the end of a journey with their families, and those who call Madison home, the Terrace still sees immense love from sunny day to sunnier day.

Here to quell any nail-biting and frantic pacing at the thought of a summer sans the Terrace, the Wisconsin Union is rolling out its Terrace Summer campaign. Its goal is to reassure you that as the warmer months roll in, the Terrace will still be here to cradle you in its arms of bright orange, yellow and green.

Jessica Cummuta, marketing and digital media strategist at the Wisconsin Union, said the campaign is geared toward letting people know the construction outside the Union won’t affect the Terrace experience.

“A lot of people were like, ‘Oh, I saw that photo and there was a fence up,’ and getting scared of what the experience was going to be like,” said Jessica. “There are just a lot of new developments that are coming along, and our goal is to tell people the Terrace will still be open during all of it.”

Some of the great things you can expect to see this summer include the newly face-lifted Brat Stand to serve all your traditional grilled favorites, a new gazebo-food stand with new menu options, and a swimming pier to be installed in June.

Newly finished are a bigger lakeshore path and a re-paved shoreline leading right to the water. The old and the new join forces this summer to make your Terrace experience as close to perfection as possible; summertime staples like Terrace After Dark are back with live music and movies on the big screen.

“We really want to emphasize the relaxation, the family atmosphere, and being outside by the lake – something Jimmy Buffett-esque,” said Jessica. “The experience is still going to be great – and even better – as these new things roll out.”
