Union South: An unparalleled success
We are nearly a month in from the Union South Grand Opening and the students and staff of the Wisconsin Union are still riding high from the April 15th celebration!
By now, I’m sure many of you know that the response we received from students, faculty, staff, Union members, and the Madison community was beyond our wildest expectations. From an hour before the doors opened on that Friday at noon until we closed on Sunday night, Union South was literally a buzz with people, activity and life on its opening weekend – and it really hasn’t let up since. The crowds have been energetic, genuinely impressed, and are serving as the perfect finishing touch to over five years of purposeful planning and preparation.
The outpouring of congratulatory remarks from those in attendance at our signature events and from people simply touring the building has been sincere and heartfelt. Everyone has been truly thankful for the tremendous amount of care that went into planning the facility and the programs that are now filling it on a regular basis. The students’ and staff’s hard work, dedication and strong work ethic have been on display for all of you to see – and you have responded in remarkable style. Thank you for recognizing their incredible work with your presence in your new Union. It means a lot to all of us to see you there.
If you haven’t had a chance to stop by, I encourage you to do so as soon as you can. It’s never too soon to discover your favorite nook or cranny – nor is it too soon to begin a lifelong connection to another great place on the campus.
In fact, I hope you to see you in both Union South and Memorial Union throughout the coming summer. We have twice the space to create memories now. Why not commit yourself to making a few more memories with family and friends in the next few weeks? We’d be more than happy to help you out!
All my best,
Mark
