Terrace Yoga Introduces a New Way to Connect with the Wisconsin Union
Since its reopening in May, the Terrace has been host to many traditional Terrace activities; sunset watching, brat eating and the like. This summer, however, we added something new to the daily ritual of devoted Terrace go-ers.
Terrace Yoga began regularly offering classes in June to anyone with a yoga mat and the desire to improve their “om.” There are two different sessions: Terrace yoga and standup paddleboard yoga, for those a little extra daring.
“Having the opportunity to bring students and community members of all different ages together with a fun yoga practice at my favorite place on campus is by far my favorite part of the job,” said Sarah Calvert, Terrace yoga creator and instructor.
The combination of meditative exercise and the sunrise view over Lake Mendota creates the perfect wake-up routine. It offers a time for guests to enjoy the Terrace in its most serene and simplistic form–before the hustle and bustle begins.
A recent survey of participants revealed overwhelmingly positive reviews of Terrace yoga.
“I’ve been hanging out on the terrace for 40 years. Offering yoga is a natural and the best improvement yet,” one participant said.
Classes are offered nearly every morning of the week. For more information or to reserve your spot to practice your “om” on the Terrace, visit https://union.wisc.edu/events-and-activities/outdoor-uw/terrace-yoga/.
