Summer Terrace event schedule announced

Terrace at Sunset

The Memorial Union recently announced their summer entertainment lineup for the Terrace, featuring musicians of all genres and cinema under the summer sky. With events six days a week for the next few months, it’s clear no one in Madison has any excuse to utter the phrase “I’m bored,” this summer.

Beginning June 6 and running through August 23, Monday evenings will feature lakeside cinema. This summer’s theme is “On the Road Again: A Cinematic Journey Across American, City by City,” and includes classic and contemporary favorites such as Muppets Take Manhattan, The Blues Brothers, Oceans 11 and The Goonies. If the weather cooperates, each film will be screened right on the Terrace at 9:00 pm.

Tuesday nights the Terrace will play host to open mic from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. You never know what kind of musical styles or instruments will be featured, and musicians of any stripe are encouraged to come with 2-3 selections to perform.

The Local Band Series will be featured Wednesday nights, showcasing the best of Madison’s musical talent. You can be sure of some great free entertainment every Wednesday at 8:00.

Terrace at SunsetThe live music continues Thursday through Saturday all summer long, with several series to appeal to a range of musical interests. Thursday night plays host to the Bluegrass & Americana series from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, while Friday viewers will enjoy the jazz and acoustic series Behind the Beat from 5:00 – 7:00.

Later in the evening, the Terrace will feature the headliners of the Hot Summer Nights music series  on the UW Credit Union stage Thursday through Saturday nights. The first full weekend kicks off June 10, and the festival continues right through until classes begin in September. Headlining acts will begin at 9:30 pm on weekend evenings.

All events will be held on the Memorial Union Terrace, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, music and film events will be moved indoors to Der Rathskeller. Follow WUD Music  on Twitter to find out whether the band will be in or outside or catch up on Facebook.
