Students and Staff Program an Exciting 2022-2023 Season at the Wisconsin Union Theater

This August, the Wisconsin Union’s Wisconsin Union Theater team officially announced its full 2022-2023 season and opened ticket sales. Headquartered in Memorial Union, the theater manages two unique performance spaces: the historic, art-deco style Shannon Hall and the sleek, intimate Play Circle. In these spaces, the theater hosts a variety of cultural events designed to engage campus and the community with the performing arts.

Each season, UW-Madison students are directly involved in selecting the theater’s unique programming, which, this year, includes cutting-edge classical music performances, up-and-coming jazz artists, boundary-pushing dancers, and more. The student leaders responsible for the exciting new 2022-2023 season are members of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Performing Arts Committee, one of multiple student-run committees here at the Wisconsin Union that plan and execute a host of activities throughout the year.

“Students play a crucial role in programming for the Wisconsin Union Theater’s annual season of performing arts,” Wisconsin Union Theater Director Elizabeth Snodgrass said.  “The Wisconsin Union Theater is part of the university’s community union with multiple purposes that include: developing and supporting student leadership and building community. Our programming choices are made by students so that their perspectives, interests, and ideas are represented  in the performances we present. It keeps the Theater relevant, alive, and present in the student experience. It’s a fantastic example of the benefit of outside-of-the-classroom social learning experience. It’s the Wisconsin Idea at work.”
