OPEN for Business
There is so much to celebrate with the Memorial Union west wing reopening that we’ve dedicated a whole weekend to celebrate our OPEN House and Madison’s World Music Festival. Tour the new spaces, taste an internationally inspired food and experience all the special activities and events September 12 and 13, including an extraordinary performance by aerial dance group BANDALOOP on the side of the bulding! We’ve got the scoop, all you have to do is show up!
FRIDAY 9/12
Tours of the New Spaces
- Free tours of the west wing spaces will begin at 4:30 p.m. and go until about 7 p.m. A new tour will start every 30 minutes in the new entrance lobby of the west wing, near the Campus and Visitor Relations desk.
Internationally Inspired Special Brat Stand Menu Items (weather permitting, while supplies last)
- Yakitomorokoshi (Grilled Corn)
- Peppercorn Beer Kabobs
- Basque Chicken with Spicy Tomato Pepper Sauce
- Artwork by the Wheelhouse Studios Artist-in-Residence 2014-’15, Gerald Martell.
- Lakefront S’mores bar 7:30-9 p.m.
- Buy One, Get One Rentals (Of equal or lesser value, weather permitting)
Wheelhouse Studios (noon-11 p.m.)
- Create a Tile – Contribute to our Historic Mural installation by designing and crafting as small ceramic tile.
- Souper Bowl Making – Make a bowl for the annual Souper Bowl event, Habitat for Humanity’s main fundraising event. All finished bowls will be exhibited in the Porter Butts Gallery in December.
- Craft a Critter – Use polymer clay to make a small colorful creature, real or imagined. We will fire/bake your creation and you can take home your critter.
SATURDAY 9/13

- Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga on Saturday afternoon (2-2:45 p.m. and 3-3:45 p.m.) – to the music of Madison World Music Festival which has special ticket prices: $10 student, $15 Wisconsin Union Member, $20 Community
- Curated display of outdoor gear by PhD candidate Rachel Gross – Mendota Lodge
