New technology brings new possibilities
The advent of the first edition of our online Terrace Views happens to coincide with the same weekend that I have just attempted to connect a new wireless printer at home to our family laptop. To say I am just a little bit frustrated right now would be an understatement. I had dreamed of many other ways to spend three hours this afternoon – especially given the break in the winter weather. I hope the Union’s use of technology with the new Terrace Views is vastly more successful than my personal use of the same.
I already know I’m going to enjoy this new way of delivering you the most up-to-date information on the Union. The simple fact that I’m able to share my thoughts with you in almost “real time” nearly the same day that our newsletter is distributed tells me that the rest of the truly important news in Terrace Views will be even more timely and relevant to you as members of the Union.
I’m looking forward to communicating with all of you on a more regular basis – and I am eager to hear back from you through the blog feature that Terrace Views will now provide. Let me know what you’re thinking. Your perspective is important to me. I may not always be able to follow through on every idea, but I am committed to listening carefully and taking your thoughts into consideration. The Union has always reflected the needs and interests of its members – and this new forum will only enhance that.
By the way, I finally discovered that the anti-virus software on our laptop was preventing the printer from establishing a connection. Once I turned it off to allow the installation everything sailed right through. When the green check mark finally appeared on the screen I literally leapt out of my chair. However, I must admit that my tremendous sense of relief was quickly tempered by the realization that the sun was setting. Even though I could now claim success, somehow technology had still scored the greater victory, robbing me of an entire afternoon.
