“Move-In Motivation” Playlist: Best Tunes for New Badgers
Moving out of your home isn’t easy. Nor is moving into your new residence hall, at a new campus, surrounded by new people. However, unpacking doesn’t have to be a dreary task; check out this Move-In Motivation playlist by the Wisconsin Union meant just for you! The track list is a compilation of multiple genres and eras of music, with several tracks submitted by fellow Badgers and a suggestion on what makes that song perfect for move-in day.
1.”Jump Around”-House of Pain
We’re convinced the majority of people don’t actually know the lyrics to this song, but just try your best not to fall over when ~80,000 fans at Camp Randall jump on the narrow metal bleachers after the 3rd quarter of football games.
2. “Build Me Up Buttercup”-The Foundations
Another important game day tradition: harmonize with the entire student section on this song, even when the speakers stop playing the catchy tune.
3. “Sweet Caroline”-Neil Diamond
Get ready to yell “bah bah bah” at the top of your lungs in Camp Randall for your first Badger home game.
4. “I Will Survive”-Gloria Gaynor
“There are a lot of unknowns moving to a new place, doing new things, meeting new people. No matter what’s coming, this classic will make you feel ready to take on everything. Also, a little disco never killed anyone,”-Tommy Yonash, UW Alum
5. “Unwritten”-Natasha Bedingfield
“Unwritten is the anthem for what’s to come–your story, your life, your day, your Wisconsin Experience–it’s all ahead of you, ~unwritten~ and full of positive potential. What more can you ask for in a pump-up song, Badgers?!” -Kerry Huth, Senior
6.”Home”-Phillip Phillips
“That played on the radio as we pulled into my Lakeshore [residence hall] parking lot and my eyes just starting raining,”-Samantha Wilcox, Junior
7. “Send Me On My Way”-Rusted Root
“‘Send Me On My Way’ is one of those songs that always makes me smile when I listen to it. The beat is fun and catchy, and the lyrics definitely fit the mood of move-in day,”-Samantha Marz, Junior
8. “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”-Green Day
There’s nothing like a moody, deep Green Day song to get you looking back at your life before starting at a new campus.
9. “I Gotta Feeling”-Black Eyed Peas
An upbeat, motivational tune to start your semester off on a good note.
10. “S.O.S.”-Rihanna
This will be you during your first round of midterms. It’s alright, like track #4 says, you will survive.
11. “Don’t Stop the Music”-Rihanna
Because every playlist should have a minimum of 2 Rihanna songs.
12. “Cut to the Feeling”-Carly Rae Jepsen
“No playlist is complete without our country’s national anthem,”-Haley Henschel, UW Alum
13. “Hot in Herre”-Nelly
“Because that’s how you’ll feel in the non-air conditioned dorms during the first few weeks,”-Sarah Scheiber, Senior
14. “Take on Me”-a-ha
You need this 80s classic in your life.
15. “Phone”-Lizzo
The entire premise is about misplacing your phone while hanging out with friends. Plus, the Minneapolis-based artist is performing at the Wisconsin Union Theater Sept. 23.
