Memorial Union Reinvestment survey results
A big thank you to all of you who took a minute to fill out the survey in last fall’s email newsletter! We asked members for feedback on the upcoming Memorial Union Reinvestment to learn more about what people want to change and what they hope to keep the same.
Here is some of the interesting things we learned:
1. Top five words when asked ‘What words come to mind when you think of Memorial Union?’:
– Lakeside
– ‘Madison’
– Historic
– Heart & soul of campus
– Social
2. Top choice for members when asked what they would like added to the building:
Babcock Dairy Store
3. Top reasons people visit the Union:
92% Buy food & drink
88% Use the Terrace
60% Socialize
And a few comments from members:
“I love the Terrace and hope it isn’t changed too much…it is the heart and soul of our university.”
“As an ‘older’ Madison resident (and lifetime member of the Union) I treasure the Terrace and the Theatre and any enhancements to these will gain my favor. As a long-ago student I treasured the Rat, the Terrace, the Theater and hope these traditional gathering places will remain part of the student experience for generations to come.”
“I live in Dane county, but not in Madison anymore. I LOVED the Union when I was in school and often take people there in the summer. It’s a beautiful, traditional anchor space for the university. Please don’t change it much! Yes it needs upgrades, yes people want internet, coffee, and a room or two with a TV, but I hope it never changes as a place to remember tradition and to socialize (face-to-face) with the diverse population of students, guests, alumni, teachers, etc.”
