Introducing the WUD Volunteer Action Committee: Making a Difference with a New Name

A new school year doesn’t just bring new classes and new routines. It provides an opportunity for a fresh start, and that is especially true for one of our Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) student-led committees. For our WUD Alternative Breaks Committee, a new school year brings a fresh start and…a new name! Moving forward, the committee will be known as the WUD Volunteer Action Committee.

Although the name of the committee is changing, its dedication and commitment to service is not. The WUD Volunteer Action Committee provides students with experiences to engage in service-centered education and volunteer opportunities. Through the committee, students use practical volunteerism to find solutions to issues impacting campus and the larger community.

Along with learning and volunteerism, the WUD Volunteer Action Committee organizes trips with the aim of bringing students together over a shared cause. This name change reflects a shift in programming focus towards a mix of student-planned and led volunteer opportunities on and around campus that will be complemented by select service learning trips.

During the 2024-2025 school year, the Committee evaluated what was next for the future. What better way to symbolize this fresh start than a name change?

The name change means a fresh start not just for the committee but also for the community. It means another fulfilling season of events, trips and learning opportunities that make an impact, meet other students and build leadership skills.

Any student who wants to be involved can attend committee meetings on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Union South during the academic year.
