HOOFPRINTS: Strictly Sail 2012 – Hoofers Sailing Team
At the end of January, the University of Wisconsin Sailing Team attended Strictly Sail in Chicago.
We volunteered at the convention doing jobs such as handing out wristbands, staffing the information booths and signing attendants up for free magazine subscriptions. We also sold t-shirts, which helps raise money for the team. Lots of Wisconsin fans stopped by our booth to chat, check up on the team or buy a t-shirt.
On Friday, Brendan Boylan, of Wisconsin, was chosen as Commodore of the MCSA for the upcoming year during the Midwinter’s meeting.
Saturday night was the annual Midwinter’s dinner. Wisconsin won significantly more awards than any other MCSA team. We won the conference trophies for Match Race, Team Race, Single-handed Men’s, Coed and Women’s. Many of our individual sailors also won awards. Christine Porter won all conference women’s. Bridget Murphy and Molly Sitter won all conference women’s honorable mention. Andrew Fox, Joe Kutschenreuter, George Kutschenreuter and Phil Morley won all conference COED. Katlyn Putney, Kirstin Reeser, Meg Six and Molly Forbes won all conference crew.
It was a fun night–everyone dressed up and looked very pretty for a nice dinner and a fun awards ceremony.
Afterwards, Kevin Jewett gave a very entertaining and informative speech about how to run an Olympic campaign.
Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable weekend.
