HOOFPRINTS: Christmas Tree Trimming Party 2012 – Hoofer SCUBA Club

6920917169_ea323574abDressed in Christmas attire that included crazy hotpants, Santa hats and ugly sweaters, members geared up to enter the balmy 12-foot deep waters of the UW-Natatorium diving well. This site is both deeper and much warmer than a dive in Mendota at the Union Terrace at this time of year!

The club’s Christmas tree, a bunch of decorations and glow sticks were thrown into the pool, and members entered the pool to dress the tree.  Miniature reindeer and gingerbread men fell like snow onto the recently-descended divers, who also brought carefully-wrapped gifts to place under the tree (weighted down to prevent unwanted drift). While one attendee practiced his side-mount cave diving skills under the candy cane limbo pole, other people tried underwater juggling, bubble-ring blowing and playing underwater-catch. Once we had dressed the tree, we took turns in giving gifts and unwrapping presents–underwater!

Alas, by then our time had run out and we had to exit the pool. We cleaned up and retreated to the back entrance, where a festive meal of snacks and drinks were shared between members, along with stories and talk of anticipated future dives.

A very merry time was had by all!
