Hoofers haunted house terrifies brave attendees
By Katie Klinger
This year’s Hoofers Haunted Halloween was considered a great success, but possibly the most talked about part was the Haunted House. Scary was definitely an understatement when it came to this year’s house, named “Six Floors Under…Digging Up the Past,” regarding the new Memorial Union Reinvestment project planned to begin next summer.
On Oct. 25, the Hoofers teamed up with the UW Theater Department and Mallat’s Halloween Store to put on the Haunted House. The event was free for all attendees. The Haunted House path weaved throughout the theater and Hoofers’ areas of the Union in the west wing of the Memorial Union.
Hoofer and non-Hoofer members volunteered to make the evening a particularly spooky night. The Hoofer Council could not have been more pleased with the turn out, with approximately over 750 people making it through the Haunted House. Unfortunately, about 200 people were turned down due to time constraints.
Hoofer Council president Angela Limbach was pleased with the event and said, “Hoofers appreciated the great attendance and would like to see everyone come out again next year.”

Sailing club says “Trick Arghhh! Treat” at annual Buccaneer’s Ball
Hoofers Haunted Halloween consisted of many fun events, including the Hoofer Sailing club’s annual Buccaneer’s Ball. This event was part of a week long series of Halloween events hosted by Hoofers.
The Buccaneer’s Ball was held in Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union and was open to the public. Since sailing season had ended, the club wanted to provide another fun activity for their members and UW Madison students. The event helps keep members connected and active while they wait patiently for the next season to arrive!
Members had a great time dressing up in pirate and swashbuckling costumes and dancing the night away as they got to meet new people from the Madison campus. Sailing representative Tanya Harnpattanapanich said she “had a great time at this event and it was nice to see people in a different element instead of just on the water.”
The Hoofer Sailing club plans to continue this annual event in hopes that people will still come out and support the Sailing club, even in their off season.
