Hoofer Ski and Snowboard – Women’s Alpine Team USCSA Collegiate Nationals Recap
The Women’s UW-Alpine Ski Racing Team recently returned from the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association National Championships in Sunday River, Maine.
The team of 5 women, Brenna Murray, Emily Duncanson, Olivia Raedeke, Becca Frenz, and Kelly Karnopp competed in a field of over 100 racers representing over 21 colleges from across the country. The women qualified for Nationals by placing second at Regionals with Murray sweeping the events of both slalom and giant slalom.
After driving halfway across the country to Maine, the team trained for three days with other teams from the Midwest and competed for two days. The women had a strong finish in the slalom event with a 10th place team finish which was led by freshman Brenna Murray finishing 16th and senior Emily Duncanson finishing 29th. With Murrays 16th place finish she earned the Second Team All American Award.
With combined events, overall the UW-Madison Ladies earned a 12th place finish and Duncanson lead the team with a 34th place finish.
Competing at the National level is a huge honor for the ladies. Two years ago the Women’s team went to Nationals, but this was a first time experience for all of the girls except Duncanson. The team is relatively young and has a fast future ahead of them as they only are losing Duncanson, a senior.
Captain Becca Frenz looks forward to another fun-filled season with the team stating, “Skiing with the team is like being with family. I can’t wait to see what our hard work will bring for next season and all of the good times we’ll have together!”
