Hoofer Riding Club – Youth Summer Camps
By Fran Theisen and Katie Klinger
This summer, the Hoofers Riding Club will be holding their Hoofer Riding Summer camp June through August.
Held annually at the Hoofer Equestrian Center, these camps are available for kids ages 8 to 16. This camp allows both new and experienced riders to be completely immersed into interaction with horses as well as gain knowledge about these animals.
Camps will contain a one-hour lesson in the morning including a horse learning activity such as bridle and saddle parts, cleaning equipment and the horses, as well as preparing horse feed.
After a break for lunch, the students are back with the horses to enjoy games and activities such as capture the flag, visits from miniature horses and learning how to lunge a horse. Often times a veterinarian will also come and teach the students about health of the horses and how to properly take care of them.
At the end of the week, on Friday, there will be a horse show and an ice cream social at 1pm, so parents can observe what their children have learned throughout the weak and showcase their acquired skills. All involved are extremely excited for this summer as well as repeat attendees who look forward to camp as well.
This summer, camps will be held on the following dates:
- June 18th -22nd (Beginner/Intermediate Classes)
- June 25th -29th (All levels)
- July 9th -13th (Beginner/Intermediate)
