Hoofer Riding Club – UW Equestrian Team Update

By Joe Webb and Mark Aplin (UWET Coach)

uw equestrianThe UW Equestrian Team had a great showing on the weekend of March 17-18, when they hosted their spring IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) show. The Hoofer horses were their usual wonderful selves and got many many compliments!

To give some background: The IHSA provides collegiate riders of all skills the opportunity to compete individually and as teams. Over 8,300 students represent more than 370 colleges and universities from across the United States and Canada.

This year’s IHSA National Championships will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina. The UWET competes in Zone 7, Region 4 against teams such as Northwestern, Purdue, Notre Dame, and many more. Unlike most varsity teams, the UWET is not subsidized by the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The UWET won the last regular season show of the IHSA season (zone 7, region 4) with a near perfect score and being first and second in every class they were in except two. This leaves the team undefeated in the regular season and zone 7 region 4 champions with UW-La Crosse ET finishing in second place.

On Sunday, the UWET also had regional champions for individuals, novice fences champion and reserve, intermediate flat champion, walk trot canter champion and the novice flat reserve champion.
