Parking and All the Ways to Get to Experiences for a Lifetime
Where should we park? Have you found parking yet? Is there parking available?
We know parking questions come up when you visit downtown areas, including downtown Madison where our experiences for a lifetime await you at our buildings Memorial Union, Union South, the Pyle Center and the Fluno Center as well as our markets and cafes in other spaces.
That’s why we’ve got you covered with this story. Here is everything you need to know about downtown Madison and UW–Madison campus parking and travel, and we promise, parking and travel to our destinations don’t need to be cause for worry, especially when you plan ahead.
Parking Garages
When visiting Memorial Union, here are four key parking lots to add to your list:
- Lot 6, 600 N. Park Street
- Lot 7, 325 N. Brook Street
- Lot 46, 301 N. Lake Street
- Lot 83, 314 N. Frances Street
And when visiting Union South, keep an eye out for these lots below:
- Lot 80, 1308 W. Dayton Street
- Lot 20, 1390 University Avenue
- Lot 17, 1525 Engineering Drive
And…we have a campus map with live parking availability updates. Next time you plan a visit, have your passenger check out what lots are full, and save time driving around in circles. More time for brats and beverages!
Other Modes of Travel
Now, a car is not the only option to travel into the city. Madison is extremely walkable and bike and boat-friendly. Bring your boat and dock at the Goodspeed Family Pier Dock, located north of the Below Alumni Center on Lake Mendota, or park your bike at the countless bike racks around campus. There are 16,000 bike parking spots on campus! Don’t forget a bike lock!
Plus, the City of Madison has live lot availability updates, too. You can also park at metered street spaces, which are free on Langdon and Lake Streets after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday.
Finally, the UW–Madison campus has a free bus. Check out the 80 bus schedule.
Accessible Parking
Memorial Union is just 80 feet from the closest parking garage (Lot 6), and Union South sits right above a parking garage (Lot 80). Check out UW–Madison’s accessible parking resources and details for more information.
To guarantee you a spot, you can purchase a visitor parking spot through UW–Madison Transportation Services. The Transportation Services team also provides a free, pre-scheduled shuttle for visitors with mobility disabilities and other mobility issues Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. during the fall and spring. Please note this is a separate department, and we do not have a role in campus parking or receive campus parking revenue. Have suggestions for improvements to campus vehicle or bike parking? Let UW–Madison Transportation Services know at customerservice@fpm.wisc.edu.
