Introducing the Union Flex Dining Plan

Students living outside of residence halls and the people who help students thrive at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, this story is for you.

Imagine: you’re a student out of the residence halls for the first time, officially on your own. It’s a busy week at school, and you have plans to meet friends for Open Mic in der Rathskeller and stay out late. But you haven’t had time to plan meals or go grocery shopping, and gone are the days of being able to stop by your residence cafeteria. Enter the Union Flex Dining Plan created by us at the Wisconsin Union, a department at UW–Madison.

We recently proudly introduced the Union Flex Dining Plan for students living off-campus, offering them the flexibility to eat at any of their favorite dining locations across campus using their Wiscard beginning this fall.

The plan can be used at more than 36 dining locations, including but not limited to Memorial Union, Union South and cafes in academic buildings.

Plan options range from $500 per semester (averaging two meals and four snacks each week), perfect for students who find themselves on campus over mealtime a few days a week, to $2500 per semester (averaging 14 meals and eight snacks per week). It’s a declining balance plan, so the number of meals or snacks students choose is up to them and the plan amount. The plan also includes special discounts and perks, such as free event tickets, announced throughout each semester.

Payment is easy: once a student enrolls, it will appear on the Student Account. If enrolled by Aug.1, 2024, available financial aid can be applied. The final deadline for enrolling in the fall semester plan is Oct. 1, 2024.

Students receive a discount of 11% when using their Union Flex Dining Plan with a Wiscard.
