Celebrating 15 Years of Union South!
Well, it’s official…Union South is turning 15! Known as the south campus’s living room, Union South has served as a place for our campus community to gather, hangout and connect. The original Union South building was constructed in 1971, and the new Union South we’ve come to know and love opened in 2011. The new building has become a prime location for recreation, entertainment and, of course, food.
In celebration of Union South’s 15 birthday milestone, here are some favorite spots in Union South that are likely to become new favorites of yours (if they aren’t already). Plus, join us for a Union South birthday party!

Sett Recreation
One of the standout features and a favorite of students and visitors alike is on the lower level of Union South. With an eight-lane bowling alley and multiple pool tables, Sett Recreation has space to host an event, have fun with friends or unwind after a long day. And for all of the gamers, Sett Recreation features a long list of video and board games. However you choose to have fun, Sett Recreation has got you covered!
Gallery 1308
The Wisconsin Union Art Collection is one of the largest art collections of original Wisconsin art in the state with more than 1,500 pieces. Between Memorial Union and Union South, this work is displayed throughout the buildings and in three galleries: the Main Gallery, the Class of 1925 Gallery and Gallery 1308. You can visit Gallery 1308 on the first floor of Union South.
The exhibitions curated by the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Art Committee change often, as does the art on our buildings’ walls.
The Marquee Cinema

Another campus favorite, located on the second floor of Union South, is our very own movie theater. Equipped with high-definition projection and advanced sound systems, the Marquee Cinema brings the movie-going experiences to campus.
The Marquee Cinema features a variety of free film screenings, curated regularly by the WUD Film Committee throughout the academic year. With a 326-seat capacity, the Marquee Cinema is a great space for catching a screening right here on campus.
The Sett Pub

The Sett Pub, named after the official name for a badger den, features a lively, welcoming atmosphere. With a variety of food options, including our classic deep fried cheese curds, and a 20-foot by 8-foot screen, the Sett has established itself as a campus favorite for listening to live music and viewing sporting events. Other menu offerings include a variety of burger options and on-tap beverage selections. If you haven’t had the chance to visit, come on down, and witness for yourself why it is a favorite.
Cue the birthday music, because it is time to celebrate! To officially commemorate the 15th anniversary, the Wisconsin Union will be hosting a birthday celebration at Union South on April 15 with a cake and ice cream giveaway. Come join us for an afternoon of celebration, and learn more about the event here!
