Art, Music, Movie Events Bring Summer Fun to Terrace
The Terrace will have events from sunrise to after sunset this summer, don’t miss out!
With the sun shining and the temperatures rising, we’re celebrating the start of a new season at the Wisconsin Union: Terrace season. This summer, swing by Memorial Union and enjoy more than just the gorgeous sunsets night after night. From sunrise to after sunset, there will be plenty of fun activities, music and movies everyone will love.
Start your morning off right at the Terrace with Outdoor UW’s summer yoga, starting June 5. Whether you are brand new to yoga or have years of practice, this is your opportunity to practice the perfect poses right on the shore of Lake Mendota. Want an extra challenge? Swap the yoga mat for stand-up paddleboard (SUP) yoga right on the smooth waves. Learn more about schedules and registration for summer yoga here.
After your calming workout at yoga, stick around the Terrace and take part in Wheelhouse Studio’s free Art Zone projects. Each Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. starting June 14, all Terrace-goers can create fun art pieces, such as decorating Terrace keepsake boxes and crafting Terrace mason jars. Keep an eye out for pop-up art projects in the Art Zone all summer long for activities like squirt gun painting and bubble wands.
Paint a perfect night with Madison’s largest paint night “Paintacular” Tuesday May 23 and Monday Sept. 4. Wheelhouse Studios provides canvas, paint, brushes and even guided instruction on a first-come-first-served basis.
Once you create your own masterpiece with Wheelhouse Studios, it’s time to take a break at the Terrace. Grab dinner at der Rathskeller, the Brat Stand or the new BBQ Stand and meet up with friends for free live tunes organized by WUD Music on Wednesday-Saturday nights. Each night has its own special music genre:
- Wednesdays: Open Mic Night
- Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays: Local and National Headliners
- Thursday After Work: Bluegrass & Americana Series
- Friday After Work: Behind the Beat Jazz Series
Start of your week right on Sunday and Monday nights with WUD Film’s free Lakeside Cinema films, when the summer night sky will serve as a backdrop for the Terrace tradition. This summer’s lineup features classic films like “Jurassic Park,” “Jaws,” “The Little Mermaid” and recent movies such as “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “22 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie.” Don’t forget to grab scoops of your favorite ice cream at The Daily Scoop or fresh popcorn at Der Stiftskeller for the full Terrace experience.
