Hoofers humble beginning
This is a photo from 1931 of some Hoofers founding members. In 1931, a group of three students and three staff members aimed to make UW-Madison the outing center of the Midwest. The small group formed an outing club, which eventually grew into the beloved Wisconsin Hoofers club of today. The original Hoofers Outing club had only 20 sets of skis and took weekly hiking, climbing and camping trips. Today, Hoofers has hundreds of members organizing six independent clubs, five collegiate competitive teams and two youth programs.
