Former Union Intern to Continue his Professional Journey at NPR in D.C.
Former Wisconsin Union intern Jake Witz will work at NPR next semester.
Former Wisconsin Union team member Jake Witz is bringing the experiences and skills he gained at the Union to our nation’s capital as a National Public Radio (NPR) music editorial intern.
Witz gained these skills during a Union membership communications internship and throughout his time as a Memorial Union Terrace ambassador.
As a membership communications intern, Witz developed his interviewing, audience analysis and writing skills to craft newsletter articles for the Union’s popular newsletter, called Terrace Views, which the Union sends to more than 9,000 subscribers monthly.
Following his internship, Witz continued his Union career as one of the first Terrace ambassadors during the Terrace welcome cart premier season. During the 2016 Terrace season, the cart served as a one-stop-shop for merchandise, membership and programming information needs.
At the cart, Witz gained leadership skills as he helped guests become Union members, sold Terrace merchandise and provided members with information and services that allowed them to make the most of their experiences.
Witz will bring the skills and experiences he honed while helping members and telling the Union’s story along on the the next chapter of his own story.
“The Union and NPR share the trait that they are both striving make good content while working toward a philosophy that every team member feels strongly about,” Witz said.
As a music editorial intern, Witz will compose NPR music blog articles and transcribe radio stories for NPR’s website. Witz credits his experience at the Union as a significant factor in helping him achieve his goal of joining the NPR team.
“I feel that I was better able to figure out what NPR’s mission is because of my experience pursuing a shared goal with my Wisconsin Union coworkers,” Witz said.
